JULY 2011 Horoscope – Fiesty Uranus (yes, our immature side silently laughs everytime we say that word), New Moons, and the Southern Delta Aquarids will be the forces guiding our running energy this month.
CANCER (June 22-July 23)
A running goal or milestone that has eluded you may be within reach after July 15. Make the right decisions about your training, and the goal is yours; however, if you let your anxiety get to you, you will find yourself chasing it the rest of the year. Yes, you have unfinished business on the track/roads, but you have to accept that you cannot control every situation. A thunderstorm or heatwave may disrupt a run/race, but there is a calm that comes after the storm, so have the patience to wait out the storm and something great will await you. Key workout/race days July 27-30. Notable Cancer Runners: Khadevis Robinson, Christin Wurth-Thomas, Shalane Flanagan
LEO (July 24-August 23)
Earlier in the year, your ego was stripped away as you experienced some setbacks and upsets in your training and racing. June ushered in a positive shift and you accomplished some big feats; and guess what Lucky Leo, your luck continues into July. The Eclipse on July 1 and the Full Moon on July 15 will set you up to achieve a huge PR or victory the second half of July. Don’t get greedy, plan your races and training wisely. The body has limitations that even luck cannot force. Confidence is good, but cockiness on the track and roads can have horrible consequences. Enjoy the spotlight in July because August will usher in a stale period. Notable Leo Runners: Tyson Gay, Bob Kennedy
VIRGO August 24-September 23
Virgos will definitely be feeling Uranus rising this month (make sure you read this statement outloud..chuckle); but lucky for you, Jupiter’s new position along with Mercury entering your house, will counteract any of the negative vibes brought out by Uranus and will even catapult your running into a positive direction for the next 12 months. You have been training hard, and now it is time to celebrate your hardwork by racing. Stop wasting time worrying about an irritating runner or coach. Focus all of this energy on your own training/racing, and you will find the success you have been searching for. Share your running expertise this month by volunteering with a local group or team. Virgos like to feel needed and this is a great way to inspire or help someone else achieve something great. Notable Virgo Runners: Katie McGregor, Molly Huddle
LIBRA September 24-October 23
You have accomplished some huge feats this year in both your training and your racing, and July brings you even more. Your image is the most important thing to you, but your image is so important that you often neglect the way your body is feeling, and this can lead to an illness that could potentially sideline you for a couple weeks. Make sure you give you body a break from time to time so that you can achieve and enjoy all of the great running ahead of you. Immediate success does not equal long term success, so give yourself downtime. Notable Libra Runners: Ryan Hall
SCORPIO October 24-November 22
It is time to appreciate the small victories in your training and racing. This will keep you motivated to work hard and allow you to gain more ground so that you accomplish all of those running goals you’ve laid out for yourself. Stay on course with your future race plans, but don’t be afraid to deviate off course for a moment and jump in a race the last two weeks of July if you are feeling good. The full moon on July 15 will be the big turning point, and you will find yourself newly inspired and rejuvenated. Never one to follow the mainstream, you need to embrace new approaches to your racing and training in July. These new approaches may reveal an unseen path to your running success. Notable Scorpio Runners: Allyson Felix, Anthony Famiglietti
SAGITTARIUS November 23-December 22
Your passion for conquest is evident in July. Everytime you toe the line or start your training run, you are filled with focused determination. Never one to enjoy running alone, July is no different. Your team, running partners, coaches, families all play a huge part in your training success, but it is also important to set boundaries and to embrace some much needed time alone. Take a slow methodical approach to your training, and do not act impulsively or it could lead to injury or illness. August does not look to be as kind to you, so enjoy each and every run in July and take a much needed vacation or break in August.
CAPRICORN December 23-January 20
Before July 16, you will experience good progress in both your training and racing. But your confidence will start to wane on July 17, just two days after the full moon culminates. Unforeseen hurdles (in the form of an illness, fatigue or a strong competitor) will present themselves. Don’t shy away because these obstacles will actually help you begin to see that you have the talent and will to overcome them. Self discipline is required; so do the work and as your fitness improves, so will your confidence. Join forces with a training partner or a coach, you will need strong relationships this month to help keep you motivated. Notable Capricorn Runners: Maggie Vessey, Shawn Crawford
AQUARIUS January 21-February 19
July will be full of ups and downs in your training and racing. So make sure you capitalize on those days when you are feeling good. It is very important that you plan your workouts around how you are feeling so you can get the most out of your training. If a long run feels overwhelming, don’t stress if you have to shorten the run. Like your June horoscope, make sure that you nuture the mental aspect of your training this month. Many unique opportunities will present themselves in July, but you must have clarity of the mind in order to see them. These opportunities will elevate you so that you can leave all your competitors behind in August. Great days to workout or race: July 7, 9-10, 15, 28-29 Notable Aquarius Runners: Amy Hastings, Deena Kastor
PISCES February 20-March 20
Uranus is disrupting just about every sign this month, but you are being left unscathed. This month will have you racing from your gut, a feeling that you haven’t had for a while. July will be favorable for both your training and racing, so go out and run that race you’ve had your eye on. Better yet, try racing a distance you have never run before, or plan a vacation around your next race. You finally have the confidence in your training to challenge yourself to a new event. Notable Pisces Runners: Morgan Uceny, Sanya Richards, Andrew Bumbalough
ARIES March 21-April 20
You have proven yourself once again that you are the most dedicated runner on the roads and track, and now you are ready to reap the rewards. During July, you will be able to accomplish runs that were once impossible. It is time to dig deep and really challenge yourself. Be proud of your accomplishments, but don’t boast. Others often mistake your confidence for cockiness (sometimes they are right!). Energy levels will be way up, competition will be minimal, and you will be ready for any challenge. If you are racing this month, make an unexpected move and your competitors will not be ready for it. If you have your sights set on a Fall marathon, start your build up now. Notable Aries Runners: Colleen de Reuck
TAURUS April 21-May 21
You will be very busy in July leaving little time for your training. Focus on quality over quantity the first half of the month. Whether you run for competition or for fitness, if you have 20-30 minutes to sneak in a run, make it count by running shorter intervals at a faster pace. In the past, you have often neglected your natural speed, but now is a good time to nurture this talent on these shorter runs. Stick to shorter races such as 5k’s and 10k’s. Running a distance you are not prepared for can leave you drained and frustrated. The Solar Eclipse on July 1 will elevate your running confidence, so don’t be afraid to challenge yourself if you do decide to race. High energy days July 9-10. Notable Taurus Runners: Nick Willis, Alysia Montano, David Oliver
GEMINI May 22-June 21
July starts off with a slow, sluggish crawl, but don’t worry if you are not feeling 100% because this feeling is temporary. By the end of the month you will feel better than you have felt in a long time, and the year will progressively get better and better for your running and racing. The key is to not get frustrated and walk away from a running event or your training before you actually reach your goals. If you are bored with your training, try something new; find a running partner, join a running group, add in speedwork, or explore a new running route. Now is a perfect time to look at future goals and plan a course of action on how to reach them. Make sure you set both short and long-term goals to help you stay motivated throughout the year. Notable Gemini Runners: Jen Rhines
